To celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, Panda Express wanted to create a retro, 8-Bit style, side-scroller video game to play on your phone. We composed some fun music for all levels of the game that sports a rad 8-bit style while also subtly nodding to traditional Chinese instrumentation and arrangement. The music aims to convey the energy and tone of each setting while keeping the fun factor cranked.
This project gave us an opportunity to explore new ways to nail the retro sound of old video games by processing original sound effects and music through vintage video game consoles like Sega Genesis then augmenting the results with modern tools.
